Horizontal Advancement

Employees on a regular salary schedule are eligible to apply for horizontal advancement when they have completed the necessary requirements to move from one educational lane to another. When horizontal advancement is approved, an employee will be placed on the corresponding step of their contracted salary schedule. Employees are also entitled to move both horizontally and vertically in the same year. 

Employees who plan to advance from one educational lane to another through coursework should complete the Horizontal Advancement Application Form no later than September 15 of the school year for which the course credit will be granted. Grade report forms may be temporarily accepted as evidence of completion of a course. If an official transcript(s) of credit(s) earned is not filed with the human resources department by the end of the first semester, employees will be moved back to their previous salary lane and their salary will be reduced to make up for any overpayment.
