Sioux City

The Sioux City Community School District is located in a tri-state region, often referred to as Siouxland. While the District serves students in Sioux City, Iowa, students benefit from support and business partnerships from the greater Siouxland area. The wide range of opportunities available in Siouxland is reflected in the breadth of programs we offer to inspire student learning.

In recent years, the community has received many high profile national rankings, including #1 for Economic Development by Site Selection magazine, #4 Most Competitive City in North America for Food and Beverage, Top 10 Most Livable Small Cities and Top 10 Startup Ecosystem in Silicon Prairie.

Academics

The academic curriculum is based on District and Iowa Core standards to ensure all students, kindergarten through twelfth grade, meet or exceed expected learning outcomes at every grade level. By following these standards, the District ensures our students develop the critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills needed to be successful now and into the future.

No matter what learning supports a student may need, the Sioux City Community School District fulfills the learning needs of all students. Enhanced learning supports are available for English language learners, students with special needs, and talented and gifted students.

Future Ready Students

At all grade levels, students have an opportunity to participate in a Future Ready experience. That’s because the Sioux City Community School District is designated a Future Ready District by the US Department of Education. The characteristics of a Future Ready district include: imagining the classrooms of the future, ensuring teachers are ready to utilize and benefit from technology, and preparing administrators to lead and support teachers as they utilize technology.

Student Activities

Beyond the classroom, students are given opportunities to excel in activities that enhance the educational experience and strengthen social connections among students. Visit each school’s website to view a list of activities and athletics students participate in.

Technology

The District has invested in technology to enhance the student learning experience. Elementary students use iPads, computers, and a host of technology devices throughout the day to experience enhanced learning. Then, in middle school and high school each student is given a personal laptop to use for school purposes.

State-of-the-Art-Facilities

Students of the Sioux City Community School District experience state-of-the-art learning in new or newly renovated, modern facilities. By 2022, the District will have ten completely new elementary schools and four additional elementary schools updated with improved learning comforts. Two of the three middle schools in the District are new facilities, and the third middle school underwent extensive renovation. And with newer high schools already in existence, the District then added to the existing structures to create brand new science wings for each facility. These construction projects and renovations have earned the District EPA ENERGY STAR recognition for 21 buildings.

High school students enrolled in the Sioux City Career Academy also have access to modern facilities with industry-relevant technology. The Harry Hopkins Campus provides a real-world experience for students in the technical pathways such as auto body, auto tech, and welding. The Educational Service Center Campus is the home to the larger majority of pathway classes. It is a 75,000 square foot facility that was unveiled in 2018.

These facilities are an investment into our students’ futures.
