Provide Relevant, Rigorous, and Innovative Academics
Objectives:
A. Close the achievement gaps
- Increase kindergarten readiness by engaging the community in an early literacy campaign that focuses on vocabulary and literacy for children from birth to five.
- Increase the percentage of students scoring proficient in each individual student subgroup on state assessments by 2 percentage points annually.
- By 2022, double the percentage of special education students scoring proficient on state assessments.
- Accelerate the entry of ELL students into the general curricula as evidenced by a decrease in the average number of semesters in the LEIP program annually.
- Reduce chronic absenteeism in grades PK-2 by 5 percent by 2022.
- Continue to expect annual attendance rates for buildings to be above the state average.
B. Continue to align curriculum, assessment and instruction to standards
- Identify power standards for each course in grades PK-12 to provide a guaranteed, viable curriculum for all students.
- Continue to implement effective and innovative teaching practices that maximize rigor and engagement.
- Continue to utilize Professional Learning Communities that drive instructional decisions.
- Integrate literacy across the curriculum.
- Provide professional development that enables teachers to effectively meet the learning needs of all students.
- Utilize technology to effectively report student achievement to parents and/or guardians.
C. Design progressive learning environments that strategically integrate digital resources and emerging technologies
- TK-12 classrooms will be equipped with digital resources and technology that engage students in learning.
- Teams consisting of administrators and teachers at each building will support the effective use of technology and promote technology literacy, including digital citizenship, through job-embedded PD.
- Assessments will be delivered and results reported electronically.
- Data will be easily accessible throughout the system, including at the classroom level.
D. Cultivate environments of inquiry that enhance the unique skills and abilities of educators and students through collaboration, creativity, communication, problem solving and critical thinking
- Create inquiry-based and experiential learning opportunities for all students.
- Curriculum revisions will include integration of collaboration, creativity, communication, problem solving and critical thinking.
E. Ensure all students graduate college and career ready
- At least 90 percent of students will graduate with a high school diploma by 2022.
- At least 90 percent of students will leave high school with a career plan.
- Decrease the special education identification rate by 2% and maintain an average at or below the state average.
- The percentage of students attaining industry certifications and/or college credits in one or more areas of study will increase by at least 5 percent by 2022.
- College and military enrollment will increase by at least 5 percent by 2022.
