Provide Safe, Healthy, and Supportive Learning Environments
Objectives:
A. Strengthen Adult-Student relationships in all buildings
- Research-based advisory programs will be developed and implemented at the secondary schools.
- Mentoring will be developed and implemented for at-risk students.
- By 2022, 90% of students will respond favorably to the Iowa Youth Survey on staff relationships and bullying questions in grade levels assessed.
B. Extend learning opportunities for struggling students and students with diverse learning needs
- Develop and expand extended learning opportunities to include early learning, nontraditional learning, tutoring, summer learning, and alternatives to suspension to reduce learning loss and address diverse learning needs.
- Create personalized learning opportunities that are relevant to the struggling student by utilizing technology at all levels.
- Continue to expect the District dropout rate to be below 2%.
C. Provide wrap around support to meet the needs of the whole child
- Train 400 staff members in Youth Mental Health First Aid by 2020.
- Develop and deliver programs and resources to assist families in fulfilling their essential roles in supporting students.
- Leverage technology to match community and business assets to the identified needs within schools.
D. Implement with fidelity multi-tiered systems of support for academics and behavior
- Realign all related reporting practices and protocols to more accurately relay data at the student, school, and District-levels.
- All buildings will be at Level 3 of the PBIS behavior system by 2022.
- All buildings will have a multi-tiered system of support developed for academics by 2022.
- Multi-tiered systems will include support and enrichment opportunities.
E. Increase access to college and career readiness counseling and resources
- Review roles of school counselors to incorporate strong career counseling services in grades PK-12.
- Increase collaboration between school counselors and special education teachers to target special education students who are at-risk of dropping out of school and provide mentoring/support for the students.
- Increase ELL and special education student participation in CTE Career Pathways by providing enhanced support to CTE teachers.
