East High School Homecoming Week 2017
East High will celebrate homecoming week October 2-6. The theme is “Dancing with the gods.” The coronation will take place in the auditorium at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 2.
The candidates for Homecoming Queen are: Hannah Cooke- daughter of Cheryl Bentz and Adam Cooke; Taylor Copple- daughter of Jason and Teresa Copple; Ana Cruz- daughter of Sarah and Andres Cruz; Grace Hildahl- daughter of Darin and Stacy Hildahl; Laura Houlsworth- daughter of Todd and Cindy Houlsworth; Ariel Kern- daughter of Troy and Cara Kern; Shana Mckie- daughter of Mandy Cook; Aleigha Peterson- daughter of Tammy Peterson; Avery Poole- daughter of Jason and Heather Poole; Alexandria Self- daughter of Jerry Self and Kellien Anderson; Olivia Tidwell- daughter of Ken and April Tidwell; and Lauren Van Dyke- daughter of Dave and Vicki Van Dyke.
The candidates for Homecoming King are: Anthony Anderson- son of Jan Anderson; Corey Choyce- son of Corey Choyce and Micheala French; Juan Gomez- son Juan Gomez and Patricia Moreno; Kevin Hernandez- son of Alberto and Olga Hernandez; Samuel Hildahl- son of Darin and Stacy Hildahl; Corey Kellen- son of Kirk Kellen and Jeanette Dobson; James Page- son of Dave and Staci Page; Eric Steele- son of Willie and Melissa Steele; Carter Strom- son of Sherri Strom and the late Joe Strom; Cole Taylor- son of Chuck and Allison Taylor; Gabriel Ruiz- son of Ricardo and Andrea Ruiz; and Parker Wolf- son of Paul and Christine Wolf.
On Thursday, October 5, weather permitting; the parade will kick off from the corner of Peters Park and Morningside Avenue at 6:30 pm. The parade will then travel down Cecelia Park.
The parade will also feature the homecoming royalty, the East High and East Middle marching bands, and the East High cheerleaders. Representatives from the elementary feeder schools will also be in the parade.
Following the parade, at approximately 8 pm on Thursday night, the traditional Spirit Bon Fire will take place at the practice field next to the East High softball fields.
Friday night from 5:30 – 7 pm the Taste of Morningside pre-game meal will be served in the shelter house of the Elwood Olsen Stadium. At 7 pm, the football game versus Des Moines Roosevelt will kick off. During the half time show, the East High marching band will perform.
The Pancake Feed Fundraiser will be held Saturday morning from 8 – 11 am. That night, the homecoming dance will take place in the East High commons area from 8 – 11 pm.
Spirit Days for the week are: Monday – Dress Up Day, Tuesday – Dress Like Your Date, Wednesday – Class Distinction (Senior: Toga, Junior: Punk, Sophomore: 80’s Workout, Freshmen: Nerd), Thursday – Thrift Shop Day, and Friday – Crazy Orange and Black.
