West High will celebrate homecoming week September 11-15.  The theme is “Arabian Nights.”

The week includes several celebration events. The traditional powder puff football game will be on Monday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Riverside football field. Coronation of the homecoming royalty takes place Tuesday, September 12 in the West High Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.

The homecoming parade is on Friday, September, 15 at 1:30 p.m. starting at Heartland Baptist Church on West 19th towards Rebecca Street and ending at the Liberty Elementary School. The parade will feature West High administration, the parade marshall, homecoming royalty, the West High cheerleaders, the West High and West Middle marching bands, class floats, and Dr. Gausman, the Superintendent of the Sioux City Community School District. Representatives from the West feeder schools will also participate. The feeder schools include West Middle, Liberty, Lincoln, Loess Hills, and Riverside Elementary Schools.

Friday evening the Wolverines play at 7:30 p.m. in a football matchup with Thomas Jefferson. Homecoming royalty will be introduced during halftime and then West High marching band will be featured.

Concluding the week’s festivities will be a dance on Saturday, September 16 from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m.  in the West High School Den.

Spirit Days for the week are: Class Color Monday; Pajama Day Tuesday; Dress Like Your Date or Twin Day Wednesday; Decade Day Thursday; and Spirit Day Friday.

Candidates for homecoming queen are: Neftali Ramirez, daughter of Diego and Rocio Ramirez; Payton Beaumier, daughter of Kelly Beaumier and the late Cliff Beaumier; Caprice Delperdang, daughter of Layne and Trista Delperdang; Emily Molden, daughter of Mike and Sheila Molden; Caroline Oberg, daughter of Chris Oberg and Cindy Buys; Caroline Flannery daughter of Patrick and Stephanie Flannery; Mae Macfarlane, daughter of Jeff and Holly Macfarlane; Adilene Prieto, daughter of Hugo and Maria Prieto; Ciara Tullis, daughter of Brad and Tara Tullis; and Heidi Boettcher, daughter of Traci Verdoorn and Rodney Boettcher.

Candidates for homecoming king are: Simon Ngyuen, son of Boa Nguyen and Lam Ha; Bryon Cota, son of Alonso and Hermila Cota; Enrique DeLaGarza, son of Ron and Hollie DeLaGarza; Rafael Serrano, son of Rogelio and Amelia Serrano; Dustin Saia, son of Dawn Carney; Conner Birkes, son of Randy and Jackie Birkes; Blake Faber, son of Fred Faber; Oscar Grijalva, son of Oscar Grijalva and Felipa Mancillas; Alex Fracisco, son of Neil and Susan Fracisco; and Max Luesebrink, son of Mike and Rhonda Luesebrink.

Emcee’s for coronation are Hiatt Holman, son of Chris and Margaret Holman; and Maddie Felix, daughter of Jason and Jeannea Felix. Our Homecoming Marshall this year is Joan O’Harrow, a 2016 West High Retiree.
