Sioux City Teachers Divide Great Idea Grants

Fifteen projects within the Sioux City School District split $25,000 in Great Ideas Grants, in money awarded Thursday night by the Sioux City Public Schools Foundation.

The Great Idea Grant, which began in 2009 as the Classroom Grant program, is funded by dollars raised through an internal giving campaign. In 2016 the program shifted to allow anyone in the Sioux City district with a great idea to apply for the funds to foster innovation in schools.

The schools and their projects recognized at Thursday’s ceremony were:

Clark Elementary kindergarten, Improving the Playdough Process.

Hunt Elementary kindergarten, Kindergartners Love to Retell literacy resources.

Irving Elementary, literacy resources in English and Spanish.

Irving Elementary, bilingual story time.

Liberty Elementary, Djembe drums.

Morningside Elementary first grade, Mindfulness in the Classroom spheres, bells and books.

Perry Creek Elementary, Mindfulness Matters sensory materials to help calm students.

Perry Creek Elementary first grade, Meaningful Math work stations.

Nodland/Sunnyside Elementary third grade, Sphero and Ollie technology.

East Middle School sixth grade, high altitude balloon investigations.

West Middle School seventh grade, literature circles.

West High School, remodeling of outdoor classroom.

Career Academy, Project Lead the Way.

Career Academy, Filmaking Pathway video work station equipment.
