East High Dedicates New Wall of Honor

Magic moments Thursday night at Sioux City East High School and not just because the Blackraiders and Bishop Heelan were squaring off on the court.

Before the boys game tipped off, fans packed the gymnasium cheering the dedication of the school’s new Wall of Honor.

The Raider Spirit Foundation donated the wall that so far honors 76 graduates that died in wars ranging from World War II all the way to the Iraq War.

Researchers say they’ve been working for more than a decade to find the names of alumni who died while serving.

“Humbling, happy to see them finally brought forth so that everybody could see them, put a face to the name. That’s a lot of what are research was is finding the photos, finding a face finding who they were,” said Marta and Donald Nelson who provided research for the wall.

The Wall of Honor is located just outside the East gymnasium.

If anyone has information on any alum that died while serving, East High wants to hear about them so they too can be featured on the wall.
