GRAMMY Museum gifts $2,000 award to North High music program
The music program at North High School was recently gifted $2,000 as an education initiative from the GRAMMY Museum’s Signature Schools Community Award.
In partnership with the Hot Topic Foundation, the GRAMMY Museum provides recognition and support to economically underserved public high school music programs in selected communities nationwide. North High was one of 100 schools to receive funding for the 2017-18 school year.
The GRAMMY Museum Signature Schools program seeks to inspire educators to use music as a gateway to learning; inspiring and cultivating creativity, critical thinking and self-expression. To date, approximately $1.4 million in grants has been distributed to close to 700 schools in all 50 states.
North High’s music program offers choir, orchestra, concert band, jazz band, and marching band. For the past four years, North’s jazz program has placed in the top six in class at the Iowa Jazz Championships, a showcase for 60 of the state’s finest high school jazz ensembles.
