Nationals, here East High comes!
Several East High students have qualified to compete among the best in the nation at The National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament – the largest academic competition in the world. The competition will take place in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from June 17- 22.
In order to qualify for Nationals, participants had to place in the top two in their category at the qualifying meet on Feb. 9. The following students have qualified:
Olivia Tidwell – Informative (a 10 minute speech that Olivia wrote, memorized, and created visual aids).
Brittany Todd and Mikendra Lynn – Duo Interpretation (a 10 minute memorized acting category from a dramatic script).
Whitney Lester placed third, making her first alternate in Humorous Interpretation (a 10 minute memorized acting category from a humorous script).
Madison Rhee placed third, making her first alternate in Original Oratory (a 10 minute structured speech that Madison wrote, and memorized).
On March 17th, students will have the chance to go after Congress Qualifiers and the decision on who will be on the Worlds Team as well.
