Towler Named Sioux City Career Academy Principal

With the growth of the Sioux City Career Academy, both in physical space and student participation, it is timely for the Sioux City Community School District to assign an administrator to oversee the leadership and direction of the Academy. Katie Towler, the current West Middle School principal, is being promoted to the principal of the Sioux City Career Academy to assume these responsibilities.

Towler will begin her role as principal of the Sioux City Career Academy on July 1, 2018. In this role, she will be the key facilitator of change to positively affect student achievement. Towler will also focus on fostering the development of leadership through coaching and supervision of the career and technical education teachers.

“Katie is well-suited for this position. She has proven her leadership skills with her current role in the District and her energetic, student-results oriented focus is pivotal to leading the Sioux City Career Academy to even greater excellence,” said Dr. Paul Gausman, superintendent for Sioux City Community Schools.

Towler holds a bachelor’s degree in English and religion from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree in education from the University of Phoenix, and a specialist degree in PK-12 administration from the University of South Dakota. She has been with the Sioux City Community School District since 2005.
