Loess Hills Elementary and West High team up on engineering project

The project is part of the “Future Ready” program with the goal of the high school students inspiring the younger kids to pursue education and careers in STEM fields.

Both groups worked together to build a structure that can be carried by a robot and hold supplies for people affected by a disaster.

“It gets the kids to think outside the box and they have to collaborate, communicate, be creative. They have to critically think about how they are going to get these things there and not destroy them, damage them, all that stuff. It hits all the four C’s, its project based, its really fun for the kids,” said Tech Teacher Layne Henn. The two hour lesson had the high school students do the building and explain the process while the 5th grade students did the coding for the robot.
