Soldier returns the favor to Leeds Elementary correspondents

Several members of the 185th Air Refueling Wing have returned home from their overseas deployment.

Tuesday, we followed one with a special connection with a class of local elementary school students.

“Hi Guys how are you? Good…Good”

Master Sergeant Jack Fergen was deployed with the 185th Air Refueling Wing to the United Arab Emirates.

He was gone nearly six months.

However the classmates of his niece, Addyson, at Leeds Elementary, kept in touch with him via care packages and Christmas cards.

“It was exciting cuz when you get to read them. Especially how they write and everything. It’s kind of like how can I read this? (Laughs)” says Master Sgt. Jack Fergen, Returning Soldier

Master Sergeant Fergen shared with the kids a slide show about his travels.

He also answered several questions — everything from what kind of food did you eat, to did they have any cats over there?

He also gave each student a copy of “Challenge Coins” as a token of his appreciation for the kids’ correspondence.

“Jack decided he wanted to bring those coins back as appreciation because the days get long as you’re there. It was just a nice gesture to have those cards and extra things sent to him,” says Kathie Fergen, Wife.
