West High Payton Beaumier awarded coveted Ron Brown Scholarship
Out of over 4,500 applicants, West High School senior and Student Council President Payton Beaumier has been awarded a four-year $40,000 Ron Brown Scholarship. Beaumier is one of 24 individuals nationwide to be chosen for this honor.
The coveted Ron Brown scholarship was named for the late Secretary of Commerce and focuses on encouraging civic engagement among scholars while promoting academic excellence. Awarded at $10,000 over the course of four years, the scholarship may be used by recipients at any college or university of their choice.
Recipients are young African Americans of outstanding promise who demonstrate an interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship, and global citizenship. As an extension of her academic award, Beaumier will also be provided with leadership training and internship opportunities, as well as the nurturing and mentorship to succeed and flourish in college and beyond.
