SCCSD collaborates to present mental health conference for caregivers
In an effort to empower school communities to embrace and sustain mental health and wellness supports, three organizations are partnering to bring the Iowa Caregivers of Pediatric Behavioral Health Conference to town. This free conference is specific designed for parents of children with mental health issues. The conference will be hosted at Sioux City West Middle School on Saturday, September 29 from 9 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.
Presented by the Sioux City Community School District, Junior League of Sioux City and Please Pass the Love, this conference delivers an increased knowledge of pediatric behavior health issues, resources available, and strategies to navigate challenges. Potential breakout sessions may include the following topics: relationship building, caregiver wellness, transitioning to adulthood, crisis management, and more.
The conference will also feature keynote speaker and middle school administrator, Brian Carico, who will address the topic of depression and suicide. A suicide survivor of his son and father, Carico has also been in education for the past 27 years. During that time, he has been a passionate advocate for struggling students.
All parents and community members interested in attending must register at pleasepassthelove.org prior to the event. A free pizza lunch will be provided to attendees. All questions can be directed to info@pleasepassthelove.org.
