West High Homecoming Week 2018

The theme is “Going to the Gala.” Throughout the week, West High’s Gala will host events to help raise money and awareness about Downs Syndrome. Proceeds from fundraising efforts will support Gigi’s Playhouse.

The coronation will take place in the auditorium at 6:00 pm on Monday, October 1.  Following the coronation, a dessert reception will be hosted in the Media Center where free will donations will be accepted for Gigi’s Playhouse. Deserts are provided by West High ProStart Classes lead by Mrs. Rush and Mrs. MacFarlane.

On Tuesday, October 2, the West High volleyball teams will host Awareness Night, which entails fundraisers for Gigi’s Playhouse and Down syndrome awareness announcements throughout the games. JV plays at 6 pm and Varsity plays at 7 pm.

Thursday, October 4, weather permitting, the parade will run along West 19th and Rebecca St starting at 1:30 pm, featuring retired West High teacher, Janet Young, as the grand marshal. The parade will also feature the homecoming royalty, the West High and West Middle marching bands, and the Sioux City Teacher of the Year, Shelly Nash. Representatives from the West feeder elementary schools will also participate.

Thursday’s pep assembly will take place in the school’s gym at 9:00 am. Then, that night students will rally the West Wolverines to victory at 7 pm at Olsen Stadium.

Friday, the annual powderpuff football game will kick-off at 6:30 pm on Riverside Elementary’s football field. The $2 per person admission for the event will benefit Gigi’s Playhouse.

Saturday’s dance will take place in Wooly’s Den from 8:00 – 11:00 pm.  Students can purchase their dance tickets before or after school during homecoming week.

Spirit Days for the week are, Monday Class Color Day (Freshmen: Pink/Orange, Sophomores: Red/Grey, Juniors: Blue/Gold, Seniors: Black/White), Tuesday: Awareness Day for Down Syndrome (Wear Blue/Yellow) or dress like your favorite cartoon character, Wednesday: Twin Day or Dress Like Your Date Day, Thursday: West High Spirit Day (Wear Green/White), and Friday: Celebrity or Superhero Day.

The candidates for Homecoming Queen are: Clarissa Arellano, daughter of Luis and Elsa Arellano; Katie Blatchford, daughter of Heath and Susie Blatchford; Bricelyn Comstock, daughter of Scott and Roni Comstock; Lauren Cook, daughter of Josh and Hanna Reinders; Madison Felix, daughter of Jeannea and Jason Felix,  Angie and RJ Merchant ; Rebecca Himes, daughter of Angie Reynolds and Neil Himes; Makayla Mozak, daughter of Dyron and Kari Mozak; Kaylynne Patterson, daughter of John and Kerry Patterson; Daisy Risner, daughter of Rodney and  Daisy Risner; Abigail Welty, daughter of Kevin and Melissa Welty
