Sioux City Community schools are coming together this week to pledge their commitment to live drug-free lives.
They are participating in Red Ribbon Week to support the pledge.
Bryant Elementary School is one of the schools taking part.
Each day of this week has a specific dress-up theme at the school.
Today students and staff wore red for “Red Ribbon.”
All classes had a chalk-walk activity.
Students wrote positive messages about Red Ribbon Week, or were able to draw their commitment to say no to drugs.
“I feel like they’re really responding an interest and to learn about drugs or to learn about what’s legal and what isn’t, you know it’s been interesting, you know kids have asked about ‘Oh well what if my parent drinks alcohol?’ And talking about how it’s really about being legal and that you’re using it responsibly,” says Mary Olorundami, Bryant Elementary School third grade teacher.
Red Ribbon Week has been a nationwide annual event since 1985.
