“Walking” school bus makes stop at Spalding Park

Walking School Bus 2018

Students at Spalding Park Elementary in Sioux City took a unique ride to school Wednesday morning.

It’s called the “walking” school bus.

Every Wednesday for six to eight weeks in the fall and spring, kids walk to school with classmates and their teachers.

The route is about three-fourths of a mile long from Cecilia Park to Spalding Elementary.

Organizers say it’s a great way to promote physical activity and also building relationships.

“They get to see us away from the normal school setting,” said Kyle Lewis, Spalding Park Elementary Physical Education Teacher, “They get to have some fun, and we get to talk about the fun things going on with them.”
