West High senior selected for National Leadership Conference

Carli Gasaway

Sioux City West High School senior, Carli Gasaway, has been selected to attend the Town Meeting on Tomorrow national leadership conference in St. Louis, MO. Sponsored by the National Council on Youth Leadership and Washington University, only 80 students are selected nationwide and Gasaway was only one of three selected locally.

Locally sponsored by the Sioux City Area Council on Youth Leadership, Gasaway was named the “Top School Leader from West Sioux City High School in the 2018 Sioux City Area Youth Salute,” earning herself an all-expense paid trip to the national leadership conference.

In order to be eligible for this recognition, Gasaway had to be a member of the senior class of 2019, have at least a cumulative 3.0 G.P.A. through her sophomore year, and have held two leadership roles to which she was chosen by her peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious, or community sponsored organizations. Gasaway’s extensive list of leadership roles includes: orchestra, first chair; Mentor in Violence Prevention, mentor; National Honor Society, member; Sioux City Mayor’s Youth Commission, mayor; Reinvent the Reel Grant, leader; UnityPoint Health and Mercy Medical, volunteer; and Ronald McDonald House, volunteer.

The purpose of the Youth Salute program is to honor high school students in the community who maintain a high scholastic average and have demonstrated leadership ability.
