West High students attend Broadway performance of Hamilton
Students from the Sioux City West High School AP U.S. History and Honors English 3 classes were awarded the honor to travel to Minneapolis, MN to see the Broadway production of Hamilton, following a selective application process administered by the Hamilton Education Program.
In order to be selected to attend, students wrote and performed creative scripts based on historic documents, events, and people from the Colonial Era. Their performances were recorded and submitted to the Hamilton Education Program. As a selected school, West High students were granted an opportunity to see a performance for “Hamilton,” after also engaging in a theatre workshop with the cast.
The Hamilton Education Program is part of the Gilder Lehrman Institute and their mission to improve the teaching and learning of American history. Initially launched and funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, and many national and local donors, the Institute now has more than twenty years of experience developing educational programming in American history.
