Nodland & Sunnyside donate 11,000 items to Soup Kitchen, Warming Shelter
Giving back is an important lesson to learn, especially during Thanksgiving. And some elementary school students are working to make a difference in the Siouxland community.
Students at Nodland and Sunnyside Elementary hosted a Holiday Giving Drive collecting over 11,000 food items.
On Wednesday, those donations were loaded up and given to the Soup Kitchen, the Warming Shelter, and local blessing boxes.
Students say it’s important to give back during the holiday season.
“For the Warming Shelter since we do not take any money from the state, local government, or anything like that,” said Joshua Lebowich, Soup Kitchen and Warming Shelter, “all of our donations come from the community and especially coming from the younger ones, elementary, teaching them young is probably the best start to give back to the community, and the less fortunate.”
One class collected over 2,300 items. For their efforts, they will be treated to a pizza party.
