Unity Elementary students get hands-on carpentry experience

Unity Kid's Build

Students at a Sioux City elementary school got to do a hands- on building project Tuesday afternoon.

Unity Elementary hosted a kids build event with help from the Regional Council of Carpenters.

Students got to make their own woodworking project with help and advice from local carpentry pros.

“This gives the kids an opportunity to put a project together. It’s basically a puzzle right. We get to do something with our hands. We use glue and nails. You can hear in the background all the hammering going on. This is a great opportunity for them to do stuff like this,” said Ernie Colt.

Tuesday event is part of Sioux City Schools’ efforts to engage kids and teach them STEM skills.
