West High students attend Tinker anniversary event
The West High AP Government and Politics class was selected to attend an event Friday, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Unites States Supreme Court decision of Tinker v. Des Moines Independent School District. The State Historical Museum of Iowa funded participation in the celebration for selected educators and students.
Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, was a landmark decision that defined First Amendment rights of students in U.S. public schools. Students who attended the celebration had the opportunity to meet Mary Beth and John Tinker to ask questions and discuss the significance of the Court’s ruling.
