Nine SCCSD schools earn PBIS Recognition, Spalding Park recognized as “Paramount”

This month, the Iowa Department of Education has awarded schools statewide for their work on implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The Sioux City Community School District had nine schools earn recognition and one school, Spalding Park Elementary, earned the state’s highest award recognition, Paramount recognition.

PBIS is a multi-tiered system of support for behavior and provides the framework for teachers to provide and monitor prevention and intervention practices. The schools’ work in PBIS focuses on conditions to support learning by providing positive, predictable and safe environments. Through PBIS, all students in the District are learning positive behavior expectations and acknowledged for following these expectations.

The Paramount recognition, received by Spalding Park Elementary, applauds the school for having school-based teams who have completed Tier 3 training, are sustaining Tiers 1 and 2, and are building a continuum of support.
