Leeds Elementary students experience school from the pioneer days
Some young Siouxland students got to take a trip back in time on Tuesday, April 17.
Leeds Elementary students took time to visit Fairview School. The schoolhouse, more than a century old, is located on Country Club Boulevard in Sioux City.
Students got to experience a school day just like it would have been all those years ago during the pioneer days. From dressing up in period clothing to writing with quills, the students got a hands-on experience.
“Coming here gives them the real experience. Not just reading about it, not just in their regular classroom environment. They’re going to experience life as a pioneer school kid would have,” said Cia Koop, a 3rd grade teacher at Leeds Elementary.
Fairview School was built in 1882 near Holstein, Iowa. It was moved to its current location in the 1970s as part of a Junior League project.
