The design will be on display as part of the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House on April 22.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host the event rich with tradition on the South Lawn and Ellipse of the White House. They are inviting schools across the nation to decorate an egg representing their state or territory and Sioux City was selected to create the design which represents Iowa. These decorated eggs from across the country will be displayed as guests enter the event.
This year, the Easter Egg Roll has a special focus on schools with a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) focus. Therefore, Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Education chose Loess Hills Computer Programming Elementary School for this honor due to the school’s collaborative work on the Computer Science is Elementary Project.
Loess Hills Elementary art teacher, Emily Evans, gave all students an opportunity to contribute artwork for the Easter egg collage made up of design elements using Iowa symbols such as the state flower (wild rose), corn, the Iowa state flag, pigs, and the bur oak trees (state tree). The egg also pays tribute to the STEM focus with technology elements such as code blocks and a laptop.
The final design is a masterpiece made up of artwork elements from 13 Loess Hills students. The overall design backdrop was created by Bella Karges, a 4th grade student. The following students added design elements to the overall collage: Vance Dudley (grade 5), Max Hoyos Eifert (grade 3), Adriana Fick (grade 5), Camryn Hayden (grade 3), Ronica Houston (grade 5), Ayden Monroe (grade 3), Ximena Murgia Navarro (grade 3), Emma Ohrtman (grade 2), Jason Stuttman (grade 5), Stella Vonderleith (grade 2), Tri Vo (grade5 ), and Soloman Walker (grade 5).
A digitized image of the egg design created by Evans and her students was sent to Washington, D.C. and will be transformed into an enlarged, two dimensional egg to display at the White House event.[vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”305638,305645,305647,305649″]
