SCCSD Project Aware to host Mental Wellness Festival
The Sioux City Community School District’s Project AWARE District Youth Team will host a Mental Wellness Festival on Saturday, April 27th. The festival will run from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Spalding Park Elementary. The event will feature inspirational speakers, hands-on learning, food, music, and fun!
Entry into the festival is free. It is open to the public and anyone looking to further educate themselves on mental health and mental wellness. The event will feature musical performances by local performers and students, as well as interactive booths with hands-on activities. Activities will include working with mindfulness, kid-friendly projects, and prevention for suicide and substance abuse.
The festival is structured so attendees can visit as many booths as they like. There will be a raffle with prizes for those who visit booths. La Juanita’s food truck will be there.
The event will feature several speakers lasting 10-15 minutes on various topics such as healthy relationships, effects of trauma, breaking the stigma around mental illness, and the impact of culture on mental health. For more information contact event coordinator Shelly Lewis at (712) 251-2547.
