Sioux City students learn engineering principles at the “Kid-Wind Challenge”
Sioux City fourth graders took a shot at being engineers, putting real world scenarios into practice at the MakerSpace.
The Kid-Wind Challenge is an event that allows students to explore the power of wind, by building and testing their own wind turbines. Along the way they learn what changes need to be made to their turbine to make it work and produce energy.
Kyle Timmins, the STEM program coordinator at Sioux City Community Schools said, “It’s an industry that’s growing every single year to where they could end up being a part of it in ten years when they get out of school and figure out what they are going to do with their life.”
