Students in Sioux City end school year with final visit with local therapy dogs

As the school year winds down, a few classrooms in the Sioux City Community School District is enjoying their last visit with the Loger’s comfort dogs.

Steve and Debbie Loger and their three sheltie therapy dogs, Meeka, Sunday and Sage have been visiting with different classrooms throughout the district for seven years.

The students are able to visit with the dogs along with reading books, singing and other activities.

“The kids read stories to the dogs. The dogs don’t care if they stutter or if they’re quiet reading. They get comfortable reading. Just seeing them smile touching the dog just melts your heart,’ said Debbie Loger.

Steve and Debbie also visit with nursing homes, libraries and GiGi’s Playhouse.
