WEST HIGH STUDENT HONORED AS 2019 INTERNATIONAL HOSA AWARD FINALIST
West High student, Jessica Kleinschmidt, earned recognition as a sixth place finalist in the Health Care Photography category of the 2019 International HOSA Conference held in June in Orlando, Fla. There were 9,749 competitors at the International HOSA Conference this year and over 100 entered the category of Health Care Photography. Kleinschmidt was one of eleven Sioux City Community School District students in attendance at the International HOSA Conference.
In April, students from East, North, and West high schools were honored as finalists at the 2019 Iowa HOSA State Awards. Students who placed first, second, or third at the State Awards qualified to represent Iowa at the International HOSA Conference. Additionally, students that placed in fourth, fifth, or sixth place at state had the potential to be selected to compete at the International HOSA Conference if students who placed first, second, or third were unable to attend.
HOSA is a national student organization that provides opportunities for leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science programs.
Awards are presented to students that demonstrate excellence and professionalism as a future health professional.
Below is a list of finalists that competed in both the Iowa and International HOSA Conferences. These competitors were joined on the trip with fellow student and conference attendee, Eli Miller of North High School, and advisors Mary Dermit and Courtney Greene.
