The brand new Bryant Elementary School in Sioux City is complete, and opened its doors to students on August 23, 2019.

The twenty-four million dollar school is the newest elementary school to be built in Sioux City.

According to Dr. Paul Gausman, the Superintendent of Sioux City Community School District, it replaces the former Bryant Elementary School, which was built in the 1890.

He said the new Bryant Elementary has been built on the old four-acre lot.

To compensate for the size, they built up instead of building out, allowing the school to have more room.

“Just having a lot of space, the gym space, the media. Electrical outlets that everyone can plug in to, that work really well. I’m excited about all of those things.” said Mary Kay Kollars, Bryant Elementary School Principal .

Kollars said they’ve also added 35 new staff members, and three pre-school programs.

She also said she’s excited for when the students get to experience it too.

“I’m always excited about the first day when the kids come to the facility. Because of course the facility is gorgeous, but it’s not about the facility. It’s about the kids, ” said Dr. Paul Gausman.

The first day of school for Bryant Elementary was Friday, August 23.
