New Sioux City teachers learning what is expected ahead of the beginning of the school year

New Sioux City teachers are learning about expectations for the upcoming school year.

The Sioux City Community School District says it’s welcoming approximately 60 new teachers.

The district says the teachers are participating in a three-day-long seminar at North Middle School.

The new teachers are learning tips from long-time teachers.

Dr. Paul Gausman, Superintendent of the Sioux City Community School District, says there’s a lot of work to be done to bring them onto the team, to ensure they understand the district’s focus and vision.

New teachers will be paired with a mentor teacher for the entire year.

“We are honored to serve this community we are honored to serve the kids in the community we are proud of the work the community has done to invest in the school district and we know it is our job to return that investment to them,” said Dr.  Gausman.

Next week, when school starts, students will fill the hallways and classrooms.

“Everything that we’ve learned so far is everything that we are going to be using while we are teaching our own students so learning how to do the positive behaviors, how to do the lining up in the hallways, how to lesson plan everything is so beneficial that everything you’re learning is just right there ready to go,” said Catherine Lippke, a new teacher said.

Lippke adds she’s very excited to began teaching and has dreamed of having a classroom of her own, since she can remember.

Sioux City Community Schools open their doors next Friday.
