Students get hands-on fire safety training at Sioux City Career Academy
Sioux City Fire Rescue helped give students from the Sioux City Career Academy a lesson in fire safety Wednesday.
The students are part of the ProStart class at the academy.
On Wednesday, they learned how to put out fires during a demonstration at North High School.
Sioux City Fire Rescue brought there Mobile Fire Extinguisher Training Unit, which allows them to have a live-fire that students can put out.
One of the ProStart instructors says this is important hands-on training for the students, most of which are already working in the restaurant industry.
“I think that they can now use this in the real world. They learned how to properly put out a fire, and to know the different fire extinguishers to tell that they can use it on whatever fire they may come upon,” said Kelsey Miller, ProStart Instructor.
ProStart is a two-year educational program supported by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.
