Local elementary school students spend some time with seniors

Spalding students visit Sunrise Retirement Community

Students from a local elementary school spent some time with some seniors on Thursday.

Spalding Park Environmental Sciences Elementary School students visited residents at the Sunrise Retirement Community.

The students decorated Christmas tree ornaments and chatted with the residents.

The activities director at Sunrise says the visits are beneficial to the residents and the students.

The residents spend quality time with others, and it provides the students with the opportunity to learn communication skills.

“To see their faces light up is priceless, its pretty nice, its just the interaction, pulling out residents who would rather have their solitude in their rooms we can pull them out, and to see them smile and just get their endorphins going for say, its so cool to see,” said Erin Anderson the Sunrise Retirement Community’s Activities Director.

Anderson says the students visit the residents once a month, during the school year.
