Sioux City students visit local hospital for Career Exploration Day
High schoolers interested in the medical field got some exposure a few years early.
On Friday, MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center hosted junior and senior healthcare students from the Sioux City Community Schools Career Academy.
It was all part of Career Exploration Day.
They spent the entire day at the hospital, listening to professionals from a variety of fields.
“This is opening up their eyes because kids think they want to get into healthcare, but they don’t know what is all involved,” said Anthony Gaul, Multi-Occupations Coordinator, Sioux City Community School District. “And all the avenues they can travel down.”
The kids also received hands-on skills training with surgery, trauma, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, imaging, and dietary care.
