A team of students from Sioux City Community School District Air Force JROTC in Sioux City, Iowa supported a fundraiser for “Partners for Patriots,” on the evening of Saturday, February 8th at Country Celebrations on Hamilton Boulevard.  Community service is an important part of the JROTC which strives to develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.

Partners for Patriots is a non-profit organization with the mission to provide service dogs to disabled veterans, helping them to gain confidence and become more independent.  Trained service dogs help veterans cope with anxiety from PTSD and provide support for those with traumatic brain injuries. Service dogs can help with household tasks including picking up and retrieving items and helping the sight and hearing impaired.

In addition to helping with the spaghetti dinner and silent auction to raise funds for the program, the JROTC cadets and guests at the event heard testimonials from veterans who described the life changing difference a service dog made in their lives. They credited their service dog with saving their marriage, family connections, and even their life.

The cadets supporting the event include: Isabella Taylor (Team leader), Savannah March, Kristen Stabe, Kaitlyn Nelson, Adeline Graves and Nathaniel Zoelle.
