Student brings horse to class as part of a hands-on learning experience
Students in Sioux City’s Career Academy got a lesson from a four-legged teacher Monday.
Lomar the horse made his way to downtown Sioux City for a demonstration and hands-on learning experience for members of Sioux City’s Future Farmers of America program.
“This hands-on experiential learning that we strive for in agricultural education,” said FFA Advisor Taylor Weidauer. “So bringing that to these students who may have never even seen a horse it is an awesome opportunity for them.”
Students were able to interact with Lomar and find a little more about equine science.
“In the Career Academy, all you do, is just like, read books, you look at power points, but here it is actually like hands-on,” said senior Valerie Rosales. “It is something you don’t do very often, schools don’t do that very often.”
This opportunity helped to celebrate national Future Farmers of America week for the Sioux city career academy’s chapter.
