April Staff Members of the Month

Congratulations to all honorees – we appreciate your hard work and dedication!

Gina McBride, Library Assistant @ Morningside STEM Elementary School

“Gina supports student literacy and reading efforts in our library by checking out library books and providing students with the opportunity for DEAR (drop everything and read) time. DEAR supports good reading choices and reading for fun. Gina also helps our students choose books from our library, which serves as a literacy hub for both students and staff. In addition, Gina supports student computer usage by utilizing the “yellow hall computer lab,” which engages students in computer programming. We’re lucky to have Gina at Morningside STEM Elementary!”

Hollie Copple, Instructional Assistance @ Morningside STEM Elementary School

“Hollie supports student computer usage by utilizing the “yellow hall computer lab,” which engages students in computer programming. She has made the computer lab a place for students to experience 21st Century Learning skills through various lessons such as coding. Thanks to Hollie, the computer lab is a well-organized technology hub for students and staff. Hollie has many other roles in the building and does them all with a smile on her face. Her work is invaluable. Congratulations, Hollie!”

Shawna Sonkensen, TK Teacher @ Loess Hills Computer Programming Elementary

“Shawna has been a leader in our building. She is part of a Future Ready team and helps lead our teachers by implementing technology and coding into her classroom. She has also worked hard to implement small group skills-based instruction into her classroom with a focus on “Must Do” activities. For some, she is the first experience students have at our school. She loves her job and it shows!”

Hannah Strand, 3rd Grade Teacher @ Loess Hills Computer Programming Elementary

“Hannah initiated the “act of mindfulness” in her classroom. She led professional development and a book study on mindfulness with teachers. Her fellow teachers have noticed a positive difference in students due to these mindfulness practices. She builds strong relationships with all students. As a social committee member, she has also brought many creative ideas to the committee. We’re lucky to have Hannah at Loess Hills!”

Nancy Treft, Nurse @ Spalding Park Environmental Sciences Elementary

“Nancy is an outstanding school nurse. She does an excellent job of ensuring all health records and health plans, as well as medications are current. It is evident she truly enjoys being in the medical field and one of our superheroes serving the front lines as a healthcare provider. She has been a school nurse for several years and her strong knowledge base related to medicine, healthcare, and medical emergencies has been an invaluable asset to our school. We are very blessed and grateful for everything that Nancy does throughout the school year to ensure our students and staff are safe and healthy. Thank you for taking such good care of all us!”
