Code Number: 505.17
The Board recognizes the convenience to families and students of having students drive themselves to school, however, driving to and parking on school property is a privilege which requires compliance with all applicable school and District rules. All students who drive to school shall comply with the parking lot entrance and exit routes and may not loiter around or be in their vehicles during the school day without permission from the building administrator. Students shall leave the school property when there is no longer a legitimate reason for them to be there.
Students who are not otherwise of age for a standard driver’s license and who either live at least one mile from their school or are otherwise determined by the Superintendent or his/her designee to have a special need may apply to the state for a “Minor School License.” Such a license allows for driving to and from the student’s designated attendance center (or a shared district’s attendance center) for the sole purpose of attending classes or school-sponsored extracurricular activities.
Failure to comply with school or District policies or rules may result in the revocation of school driving and parking privileges as well as other disciplinary action including suspension and expulsion.
