Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco/Nicotine – Free Schools

It is the policy of the Sioux City Community School District to maintain a drug, alcohol, tobacco, nicotine-free environment in order to maintain a healthy, safe, and effective learning environment. To meet this goal, the District supports a comprehensive program which includes the following components:

  • Prevention education and modeling that promotes wise choices concerning individual health, and which clearly indicates to students that the use of alcohol and other illicit drugs is wrong and harmful.
  • A school-based support team to provide early identification and intervention for alcohol, other drug abuse, and other serious problems that threaten the academic, social, physical, and emotional well-being of the student.
  • A supportive and caring school environment for students and staff who have been involved with alcohol and other drugs and for students or staff who are affected by the alcohol and other drug abuse of others.
  • An awareness program for District personnel on the signs and symptoms of alcohol and other drug abuse among students and staff and the problems students may have as a result of alcohol and other drug abuse in their families, households, and in other relationships.
  • The prohibition of possession (which includes “under the influence”), use, or distribution of alcohol and other drugs (as defined in the current Student Code of Conduct), or possession of drug paraphernalia or contraband, while such a student or staff member is on school premises or in attendance or participating in a school-related activity.
