The Board recognizes that all District-owned or leased electronic equipment and services (including, but not limited to, computer systems, networked and non-networked printers, copiers, cellular phones, telephone services, facsimile, and e-mail) help students and staff work, study, and interact more efficiently. In addition, the use of cell phones may be appropriate for the effective operation of the District and to help ensure the safety and security of people and property while on District property or engaged in school-sponsored activities. The Board authorizes the purchase and employee use of cell phones as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Additional rules are included in the Employee Handbook. The use of District-owned or leased equipment and services incurs responsibilities and requires compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, District policies, and applicable conditions of use.
A. Acceptable Usage of District-owned or leased equipment or services includes:
- Any District-directed work or study requiring the use of such equipment or service.
- Any District-related work or study that may benefit from the use of such equipment or service.
B. Limitations on Usage:
- Ancillary personal use of District mobile devices is allowed provided that it: a) does not violate
any District policy, law, or other applicable conditions of use b) does not incur any charges to
the District cellular phone plan c) is not used for unapproved purposes or personal gain; and d)
is reasonable in duration and not used during the performance of official duties, unless in the
case of emergency.- The District will review billing records to determine if individuals are in violation of

to ensure the District’s legitimate interest in the proper utilization of its property. Users should
not expect that any information stored on District equipment or services will be private. - Employees
- Employees may not use a security code, access data, or retrieve any stored communication, other than their own, except where the District has specifically authorized such conduct.
- Passwords are unique to each user whose responsibility it is to secure them. At the time of any District employee’s termination, resignation, or retirement, their passwords must be turned in to the District.
C. Disciplinary Actions
- The District will take any and all appropriate actions against any employee or student who violates this policy.
