Evaluation of and Reporting on Education Program

Code Number: 601.10

The District shall assess its education program and establish priorities to effect change in order to meet the needs of students.

External Evaluation – Every five years, the Board shall conduct an in-depth needs assessment. The needs assessment will reflect community expectations for adequate student preparation. Information will be gathered from community members and representatives from business, industry, labor, higher education, and agencies providing community services.

Internal Evaluation – Independently of the external evaluation assessment, the District will continuously examine its programs to see how they meet the expectations of the community. These assessments will be used in analyzing student performance from students, parents, teachers, and administrators. The administration shall report on such assessments to the Board.

In conjunction with the in-depth needs assessment of the District, the Board shall authorize the appointment of a committee representing District personnel, parents, students, and community members to make recommendations and assist the Board in determining the educational program. The School Improvement Advisory Committee recommendations will be developed into long-range action plans.

It is the responsibility of the Superintendent to ensure the District community is informed of students’ progress on state and locally determined indicators. The Superintendent will report annually to the Board about the means used to keep the community informed.

As a result of the committee’s work, the Board will determine major educational needs; develop long-range goals and plans to meet the identified educational needs; establish and implement short-range and intermediate-range plans to meet District goals and to attain the desired levels of student performance; evaluate progress toward meeting the goals and maintain a record of progress under the plan that includes reports of student performance and results of school improvement projects; and annually report the District’s progress made under the plan to the committee, community and the Iowa Department of Education.

Periodic progress reports shall be made to the Board.
