Grading

Code Number: 681.10

General

  • Reporting Levels
    • A comprehensive assessment system shall be established and maintained for using and reporting assessment data at three levels: District, building, and classroom. Results will be used to guide instruction, evaluate the District’s total educational program, and measure student progress.
  • Procedures
    • The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in coordination with District and Building Administrators and teachers shall develop and recommend procedures to evaluate the District’s total educational program and measure student progress within each area of instruction and as appropriate to student grade levels.

Progress Report of Students

  • The purpose of report cards and parent-teacher conferences, and parent access to a student’s grades via technology, is to share and discuss with parents and students their current level of achievement and behavior, highlight where improvement is needed, and discuss collaborative actions to be taken to meet student needs.
  • Students will receive a progress report at the end of each nine-week grading period. Students who are doing poorly, and their parents, are notified prior to the end of the semester in order to have an opportunity to improve their grade. The Board encourages the recognition of students who have made marked improvement prior to the end of the semester.
  • Parent-teacher conferences will be held in the first and third quarters at the elementary, middle, and high school levels to keep parents informed.
  • Parents, teachers, or building administrators may request a conference for students in grades kindergarten through twelve in addition to the scheduled conference time. Parents and students are encouraged to discuss the student’s progress or other matters with the student’s teacher.
