General
Because the Board believes that completion of the requirements for a diploma from the district is an achievement that improves the community, as well as the student, the Board wishes to recognize that achievement is publicly celebrated graduation exercises.
Accordingly, appropriate graduation ceremonies may be planned by the District’s high schools on the date cleared by the Superintendent. Students that have successfully completed all requirements for a diploma will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Elementary and middle schools may hold promotion exercises, but formal graduation programs for these grades are prohibited.
Cost
Although participating graduating students may be asked to pay a fee for their cap and gown, no graduating student will be barred from participating in the exercises.
Foreign Exchange Students
Foreign exchange students who have attended our schools as members of the senior class, but have not completed District graduation requirements, will not be presented with a diploma but may participate in graduation exercises.
Baccalaureate Services
District funds, including paid staff time, will not be used for baccalaureate service (religious services honoring graduates). Groups planning baccalaureate services may rent school facilities as defined in the District’s Community Use of School Facilities Form (1004.1-E). Attendance at such services is voluntary with students and school personnel acting as private individuals.
