Guest speakers and their District sponsors will follow these guidelines in making their presentations:
- The general subject matter and approach will be discussed and understood in advance. Supplemental materials used by guest speakers will be reviewed in advance prior to distribution.
- The teacher of the class/event at which the speaker is to appear will remain with the class during the speaker’s presentation. The presence of District personnel in no way implies or indicates that the message of the speaker is endorsed or sponsored by the District.
- All presentations will be educational in focus, age, and curriculum appropriate for students, and will be prepared and presented with the understanding that the public and the media may be present. School officials shall not select public speakers in a manner that favors any particular religious or political viewpoint.
- Students will not be involved in a speaker’s presentation in any manner that may infringe upon the student’s right to privacy.
- A guest speaker in a class or a course may be invited by the instructor(s), only after the review and approval of the Building Administrator.
- Commercial, political or religious materials must be reviewed in advance by the Building Administrator and may be made available only to students who wish voluntarily to accept them.
- The Board’s policy on teaching controversial issues (681.19/AR681.19) will apply.
