The District shall provide reasonable care to all students who incur medical emergencies while on school property. For severe or life-threatening injuries or illnesses, the Emergency Assistance Number (911) should always be called immediately. District employees trained in first aid/emergency care techniques shall take reasonable steps to provide emergency care until first responders arrive.
Definition of Emergency Care
For the purposes of this policy, “emergency care” means any procedure or intervention that may prevent a student from further serious injury or death. Examples of such emergency care may include: efforts to stop bleeding, clear blocked airways, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and emergency medical injections.
Building Emergency Response Teams (BERT)
Each building in the District will have a designated Building Emergency Response Team. See AR551.
